This month marks Denise's 20th year with Tranztec, so join us in congratulating Denise on both her years of service and her well-deserved recognition as this month's Driving Success featured employee. We sat down with Denise to learn more about her role as an Accounting Manager, her love for her family, and her passion for giving back to the community.

Tranztec: What does your daily role as Account Manager look like at Tranztec?

Denise: I basically do the payroll. I work with the bank account where I'm moving stuff around, moving money and reconciling those accounts. There are some tax returns that I sign off on. Very busy at year end. I work with Dana and Mackenzie. And we do a lot. It's also changed a lot from when I first started. In the beginning I was generating the W2’s and all of that, then we moved to payroll companies and now I'm auditing a lot. It's a lot of auditing of the payroll and getting changes in and working as a liaison between the employee and our payroll agency right now. I have to kind of be the middleman there are questions sometimes that can’t be asked directly.

Tranztec: You mention Dana and Mackenzie, for those who don’t know, Dana is your sister and Mackenzie is your daughter who also both work at Tranztec. Do you find it a challenge or a blessing working so closely and directly with your family like that?

Denise: I'm going to say it's always good. We really don't argue, we click you know, we back each other up. They're good at what they do. And you know, I think we make each other stronger.

Tranztec: That is excellent, care to tell us a little bit about yourself and the rest of your family?drivingSuccessFunDeniseHoyles_cruise

Denise: Yeah, well, I have a wonderful husband Mitch who i have been married to since 1989 and we have two kids. One is a pharmacist and the other a nurse by trade who now works as an administrative person. They are the most important things in the world to me. Traveling with them is one of my favorite things to do. Just spending time together, you know. Other than that, I have recently taken up bike riding which I do with Dana constantly. I am going to be a first time Grandma in May (Interviewer's note: GG is going to be her grandma name). Both my children were recently married as we have had two weddings since August of 2020, with all the bells and whistles that go with that.

Tranztec: So you are saying your bank account is pretty low?

Denise: HA HA, yes, my bank account is low.

Tranztec: You said you like to travel with your family, and I know this is something you do multiple times a year. Is there any place you would love to go that you have never been?

Denise: Oh yeah, I would. I would definitely like to do the Europe thing I like the Amalfi Coast, and that type of thing. I like cruises. I'm a cruiser. It has been a long time since we have been able to go on one because of Covid but I can't wait to get back.

Tranztec: So whenever you decide to retire will you and your husband be cruising around the world?

Denise: Doubtful. I got to stay close to my family. So probably, you know maybe a week here and there, because I really want to be around for the grandkids, I want to see them grow. I want to be really active in all that. That’s what is most important to me.

Tranztec: So your are going to be counting on free babysitting services?

Denise: Yea, that is going to be true, I watch the dogs already and I am graduating to children as they come up.

Tranztec: So I heard a rumor that in all of the 20 years you have worked here, you have never once missed the deadline of getting paychecks out on time.

Denise: Nope. And I hope I never do.

Tranztec: Has there ever been any close calls?

Denise: No. I am one of those people that like everything to be done a little bit early.

Tranztec: That is very impressive, not even once?

Denise: Yeah, honestly that is my worst nightmare right there. If I didn't get you your money out on time because I know people need it. We are not jinxing it!

Tranztec: So when you were a little girl, did you always have this passion for taxation and payroll? Or did little Denise have other plans?

Denise: Well, I actually am an introvert, I had hoped it would get me out of being in the spotlight like this...

Tranztec: No chance of that... but go on....

Denise: Yeah, I was an introvert who was good at Math which probably led me here. I think I really just decided this is what I wanted to do around my senior year in high school. I really like finding something and figuring out what the problem is and going through it and getting things to balance out to the last penny.

Tranztec: So you are kinda like Sherlock Holmes?

Denise: Ha, I do like solving puzzles. I do. But no I think I am just kind of more a perfectionist when it comes to numbers and try and try to do that till it comes out right.

Tranztec: If you could give your younger self advice or a new person starting in your position what would it be?

Denise: Probably I would say not to stress so much, this job can be a stressor don’t let it get to you. One time an IRS auditor came in and said I could probably do a little less actually. It’s just my personality though.

Tranztec: So you would tell them not to worry about every penny?

Denise: Yeah, well that’s probably bad advice but yes.

Tranztec: So Denise works behind the scenes and when she does her job right everything is boring.

Denise: Yeah, Yes, I love boring. I am a boring person. I like to be incognito, just blend into the woodwork. LOL.

Tranztec: But 20 years is a long time to spend at one place, that is cause enough for spotlighting you. You have been a major part of this company.

Denise: Yeah, I mean I have only worked at 2 places in my career Tranztec and Cimarron. So that is something.

Tranztec: Is there anything else you like doing when your not working you would like to tell us about.

drivingSuccessFunDeniseHoyles_softballDenise: I tell you something I do on the outside that I like a lot is I'm a trustee and secretary on a scholarship foundation in Genoa, and we hand out like 70 scholarships a year through that foundation. And that's something that I really like to do. It's through Genoa schools and people a lot of times create a scholarship in memorandum. They'll set up a scholarship fund and then you know, people donate to those funds. The kids will submit essays or whatever it is that each fund requires and then they go through and choose recipients. It's just something I do to give back to the community. Lots of sending out thank you letters to people when they do a donation and also letting the owners know who the scholarships were granted to etc.

Tranztec: Final and most important question. Michigan or Ohio State?

Denise: Well, when I was younger, I played a lot of softball, it’s something we all do as a family. We are definitely Ohio State fans, but we do like Michigan softball, so it's like, let’s keep that quiet. (Interviewer's Note: Your secret is safe with me Denise. )
